The Qingming or Ching Ming festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day in English is a traditional Chinese festival where Chinese people are paying respect to their ancestors before the tombstone or the grave sites. And they’re cleaning or sweeping the tomb, pulling weeds, adding fresh soil. But these days they’re not doing all of this themselves. They hire people to do the cleaning job before they visit the tomb. Just call the mowers, pay them and they’re going to do it for you. What the descendants really do is to prepare the foods, light or burn the joss sticks and buy joss paper or ghost money. Lighting the joss sticks is the way they think it can help them connect to the ancestors. And they’re going to burn the joss paper at the grave site. Because they think their ancestors need money after death.
