We accept things.
Let's take a look at some examples.

Meaning = if a friend offers a gift to you, you can take it, you can receive it.
So, you can say "I accept."
2. When Mike asked Alisa to marry him,
She happily accepted.
Meaning = Mike offered marriage to Alisa and she wanted to take that offer.

The main meaning of ;
To not include something.
Let's take a look at some examples.

Meaning = I'm talking about all fruits and I like them all, but I don't like watermelons.
So, I say "except watermelons.
2. Everyone passed the exam except for James.
Meaning = All the people that I'm talking about, passed the exam, but not James.
So, I say "except James"
