“Materials engineering” is study about how to use the materials application for best benefit belong to economics as well.
"Materials" defined to "Matter", can separate to various type. We can separate by physical characteristics for 3 group.
1. “Solid” is the materials have the atoms inside by periodic arrangement to more close, not move, fixed volume and shape e.g. metals, ice, wood and etc.
2. “Liquid” is the materials have the atoms inside by periodic arrangement not to close, fixed volume but can’t fixed shape e.g. water, alcohol, mercury and etc.
3. “Gas” is the materials have amorphous shape and can change shape all the time e.g. air, nitrogen gas, oxygen gas and etc.
“Solid” can separate group by atoms inside arrangement for 2 group.
1. “Crystalline Solid” is a solid where the atoms form a periodic arrangement by fixed the angle. They are both type for “Polymorphism” and “Isomorphism”.
2. "Amorphous solid" is a solid where the atoms form a periodic arrangement by amorphous.
By the way, the materials can separate by resource for main 2 group.
1. “Traditional Materials” is the materials came from natural e.g. metals, semiconductors, ceramics and polymer.
2. “Advance Materials” is the materials came by research and development process e.g. Nano-materials, Bio-material and energy materials.
In term of "Materials Engineering" can separate material for main 5 group.
1. Metals Material, 2. Polymers Material, 3. Ceramics Material, 4. Composites Material and 5. Semiconductors Material.
And currently the scientist can develop the various new materials e.g. 6. Bio-Materials, 7. Nano-Materials, 8. Energy Materials and etc.
