Hanako… the elephant
Kacha was an elephant. She was born in 1947 in Thailand. Two years later, Kacha was sent to Japan as a present for Japanese children. In Japan, Kacha was renamed Hanako.
Hanako lived in Inokashira Park Zoo in Tokyo for more than 60 years. She was very popular among Japanese people.
In the morning of May 26, 2016, Hanako collapsed and passed away that afternoon at the age of 69. Thousands of people mourned her death.
