How do business strategies and environmental factors stimulate nascent entrepreneurs’ resource bootstrapping?
This study aimed to examine the influence of strategic orientations and environmental factors on nascent entrepreneurs’ resource bootstrapping mindsets. Resource-dependency theory (RDT) is the main theory in this study.
This study used a self-administer online questionnaire survey among nascent entrepreneurs in Germany and Austria. The final sample size is 298 nascent entrepreneurs. Previous measures were used. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test hypotheses.
The main results show that a strategic pattern, a proactive maximization orientation positively influences resource bootstrapping. Environmental hostility and nascent venture status are positively related to resource bootstrapping. Industry experience and specific education also influence resource bootstrapping. Social capital and also weak ties are found to be related to resource bootstrapping too. Finally, overall, nascent entrepreneurs’ resource bootstrapping mindsets seem to be influenced by a proactive strategic pattern of entrepreneurs.
This study is in the field of strategic management and entrepreneurship. I found many new fancy technical terms in strategic management from this paper. But I found it a bit difficult to understand some theories and concepts and the authors can make it easier for the readers in other fields to understand. They should also give more details on how they distributed the questionnaires to the sample.
