Aesop was a storyteller, who lived in the ancient Greek over 2,500 years ago. He was born around 620 BC possible in Sardis, Phrygia, Thrace, Egypt, Ethiopia, Samos, Athens, Amorium or other places.
Aesop was a slave, but was given his freedom because of his literacy and storytelling. It seemed like perhaps, after earning his freedom, he upset some people with his wit, stories and opinions. In around 560 BC, Aesop was condemned to death for sacrilege by the Oracle of Delphi. How he was executed was unknown other than the fact he never returned home after going to Delphi.
Aesop is credited with more than six hundred fables. Many of the fables are characterized by animals that speak, solve problems, and generally have human characteristics. The fables are always end with a moral or lesson. Today, number of fables is collectively known as Aesop's Fables.
