the impact of the conflict in ukraine on the world of film
Since deciding to invade Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russia has become the center of attention of almost the entire population of the earth. Various reactions were given to the military action carried out by the Red Bear Country.
Several world film production houses (PH) have decided to cancel the release of their cinema works in Russian cinemas, such as Warner Bros. Sony Pictures which pulled the two most anticipated films, namely The Batman and Morbius.
Warner Bros. announced that "The Batman" will not be coming to Russia on March 3, which is the date for the global release of the DC Comics superhero film.
In light of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia has temporarily suspended the release of the film 'The Batman' in Russia. We will continue to monitor the current situation and we hope for a speedy and peaceful resolution to this tragedy," a WarnerMedia spokesperson said in a statement Monday (28/2/2022).
After WB gave the decision to suspend its film work for release in Russian cinemas, Sony Pictures then followed suit by stopping the screening of "Morbius", which was planned to be released on March 24, 2022 in that country.
"In light of the ongoing military action in Ukraine and the uncertainty and humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region, we will be discontinuing any planned theatrical releases in Russia, including the upcoming release of 'Morbius'," a Sony Pictures Entertainment spokesperson said.
