I always use this example whenever I need to compellingly argue about user centricity in product design.
The phone in the picture might possess the best technology of its time, but was designed with only such a technicality in mind — not the needs of the users.
So, what happened at the time was that the final product was a headphone that was too big to be a comfortably usable cellphone, and a laptop that was too small to be useful.
Unlike an iPhone that came out a few years after, the technology might not be the best of his time but the idea of having an object that could serve as a decent cellphone with Internet connectivity capacity and a camera was more than enough for it to meet the demand of the users who got so tired of having to carry so many electronic products with them when they left the house.
An iPhone was a compelling “argument “about a product whose designers “started with why” when designing something. #design #designthinking #nonphilosophy #usercentereddesign #usercentric See less
