The U.S. company Lockheed Martin is developing a new missile for multiple launch rocket systems.
What we know
The novelty is called Precision Strike Missile, or PrSM for short. It has to become the replacement for MGM-140 (ATACMS). The new missile is to be used with M142 HIMARS and M270A1 MRLSs. It is designed to destroy enemy air defenses, as well as command centers, troop concentrations, etc. In addition, it can be used to destroy naval targets.
As for its firing range, it will be 60-650 km. According to Naval News, the PrSM prototype is already capable of covering a distance of 400 km. For comparison, the ATACMS missile hits targets at a maximum distance of 300 kilometers. By the way, besides increased range, PrSM also has lower production cost. No information yet about when the production version of the missile will be.
