Basilica di Superga features a baroque style, the story goes that on 2 September 1706, at the time Turin was kept under the siege of the French army. While planning a counter-attack, Vittorio Amedeo II, the Duke (and future King of Sardinia) climbed the hill of Superga and made a vow in front of the statue of the Holy Virgin in a small chapel that in the event of victory, he would build the magnificent church dedicate to her in this spot.
