The German branch of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) fast food chain has been sharply criticized for sending the following push notification to its customers on November 10 - the anniversary of Kristallnacht:
“It's memorial day for Kristallnacht! Treat yourself with more tender cheese on your crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!”
When outrage swept the Internet, the chain hastened to apologize, writing in a message written in capital letters: "SORRY, WE MADE A MISTAKE". Deflecting blame, the company faulted “a bug in our system” for the marketing debacle.
November 10 marks the 84th anniversary of Kristallnacht, or the "Night of Broken Glass." It is known for mass riots provoked by the Nazis in Germany, as a result of which more than 90 Jews were killed, and more than 7,500 Jewish businesses were looted. The events are often considered the beginning of the Holocaust, in which more than six million Jews were killed by the Nazis
