In my class for social skill training in kids with ADHD,
I asked the students how they felt about going back to school after a long break.
They got to share their experiences from the first week of school, and it was great to see their courage and effort in adapting.
One boy said he felt bored because there was a lot of studying and not much time to play with friends. He had too much homework, which made him feel overwhelmed. It's important to remember that school can sometimes be tough, but we need to find a balance between work and play.
A few other kids felt the same way. They found it hard to adjust to the new term. But one boy talked about how happy he was during the sports class on Friday. He got to play chasing games with his friends, and it made his week better.
Some girls mentioned that school was mostly about studying. They struggled with writing on the blackboard and didn't have many chances to play during lunch breaks because they had new friends. It's important to create an environment where everyone feels included and supported.
Interestingly, one girl really loved computer class. She wanted to study only that subject because she enjoyed it so much. It's important to encourage kids to explore their interests and strengths.
Overall, the kids shared their experiences and it helped us understand how they felt coming back to school. I praised their bravery for speaking up and praised their hard work and patience.
As teachers and parents, we should listen to kids, understand their feelings, and create a supportive environment for them. By doing that, we can help them succeed in school and in life."
