Exploring "Intercultural Awareness Through English Language Teaching: The Case of Kosovo" paper 🔍
This study found that there is a problem in how culture is taught in Grade Six in Kosovo. The textbooks and what is actually being taught don’t match. This makes it hard for students to become global citizens by learning about language and culture.
The Grade Six English textbook used in Kosovo, called "Exploring English 2 (Kosovar Edition)," doesn't have enough real cultural stuff in it. It doesn't really show students much about the British culture. Instead, it focuses on things in Kosovo and has characters from Kosovo, the U.S., and other places doing things together and using mixed cultural stuff.
The paper gives three suggestions: First, teacher training programs should include more about teaching culture. Second, English textbooks should have more real cultural things in them, especially from the U.S. and the UK. Third, teachers should use creative ways to teach students about the culture they are learning about.
It is important to help students understand different cultures. This way, they can be more knowledgeable about their own culture and others as well.
