Jean’s Piaget theory

History of Jean’s Piaget
He was born in Switzerland.
He was educated at the university of Neuchatel.
He was interested in the natural sciences at a very early age.
He was wrote a short scientific paper on the albino sparrow when he was 11.
He was the first people to study children's development.
Piaget’s Assumption
* Children think differently and see the world differently from adults.
* Children are not passive learners, they actively build up their knowledge about the surrounding.
* The most effective way to understand children’s reasoning is to think from children's point of view.
Criticisms of Cognitive Development

* New perspective to understand

Weakness
* Not take the influence of social and cultural development
* A continuous process not stages
* Environmental factors can influence
* Observation of few children
Sensorimotor Stage (0-2 years)
* Playing peekaboo games to help the child understand object permanence.
* Exploring objects with different textures to stimulate sensory experiences.
Preoperational Stage (2-7 years)
* Engaging in pretend play to foster imagination and symbolic thinking.
* Drawing or painting to encourage representation of objects and people.
Concrete Operational Stage (7-12 years)
* Solving real-world problems using objects to facilitate understanding of conservation and reversibility.
* Classifying objects by characteristics (color, size, shape) to build logic and reasoning skills.
Formal Operational Stage (12 - lifetime)
* Discussing hypothetical scenarios to promote abstract thinking.
* Encouraging debates or persuasive essays to develop skills in systematic planning and deductive reasoning.
