The summary of Intercultural Awareness Through English Language Teaching: The Case of Kosovo

The study focuses on the opportunities for teaching and learning the target culture for intercultural awareness in English language education in Kosovo. reveals that Kosovo’s curriculum objective of the cultural target is not aligned with the English textbook for cultural understanding. The curriculum set the goals for preparing students to become global citizens through language and culture learning in the English language. However, this objective is rarely achieved in the classroom.
There is misalignment among curriculum documents and the textbook regarding teaching culture for cultural understanding. It is noted that while curriculum documents share the goals and objectives for preparing students to become global citizens through language and culture learning in the English language, this vision is lost along the way and rarely makes it to English language classrooms.
Based on this article, we can apply authentic sources such as video, critical incidents, experiential activities, cultural simulations, Feld experiences, role-plays, films, literature, realia, and other authentic materials to enhance intercultural awareness among students.
