Thai women deceived by foreigner on dating app, be secretly filmed in obscene videos
Pavena Foundation For Children and Women and three Thai women met Police General Surachet Hakpal to warn about an American man deceiving Thai women on a dating app, then they were physically abusive and secretly filmed obscene videos.
Today (8 Jan 2024) Paveena Hongsakul, the head of Pavena Foundation for Children and Women, and one of the victims met Police General Surachet Hakpol, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, to accelerate the investigation of Thomas, an American. His act was a romance scammer on a dating app. He claimed that he was discharged from the American army while waiting to be active in Japan.
One of the three victims said that she was deceived by Thomas, a 34-year-old, after chatting on the dating app. Because he had a pretty face and was wearing a military uniform on his profile picture, the victim thought he was trustworthy. He then persuaded the victim that he wanted to have a family with Asian women, so he proposed marriage to the victim since the first day; however, she rejected him for not knowing each other enough.
The victim then went to meet Thomas at rented accommodation in Bang Yai. After committing to him for a week, she found that he was hot-tempered. So she decided to break up with him, but she was physically assaulted by getting punched in the face and choked, so she begged for her life. After escaping his notice, she decided to inform the police of him at Bang Yai police station.
The victim further stated that, after informing the police of him, the police inquired about his act of violence, but he denied the allegations. However, the victim found that his phone secretly recorded other victims’ obscene videos; she then thought that he might have recorded her obscene videos as well.
Deceiving on app, being shamed after breaking up, physically abusing
Moreover, the victim stated that other victims, including Thai and other Asian women, decided to gather together. The first victim said that she was deceived by Thomas on the dating app in 2022. And Thomas came to Thailand in April and had a relationship with her for 4 months.
The first victim had rented a hotel room at Phra Khanong. She was then physically assaulted and secretly filmed by Thomas during intercourse, along with being publicly scammed on social media by a new account that Thomas had created an account to send those videos to porn websites.
While the second victim encountered the same situation as other victims, she was also deceived into marrying him and stolen her gold necklace worth 96.5% (30.32g). So she decided to inform the police about him and attempted to file a claim for divorce. Because Thomas was furious, he posted her obscene videos on social media, leading the victim to move to Phuket. The victims included Indonesian, Japanese, and other foreign women.
Surechet and IB accelerating to arrest Thomas
Pol.Gen. Surachet would coordinate the Immigration Bureau (IB) to prevent Thomas from leaving Thailand and also inform Bang Yai police station, about accelerating and following the offender being detained.
Thomas’s travel record showed that he had traveled to Thailand since 2022. The average travel time under a tourist visa was 10-15 days, 3-4 times per year. Moreover, theft was listed in his criminal record in the USA.
