ดวงอาทิตย์มีการปลดปล่อยพลังงานที่แตกต่างกันในแต่ละช่วง บางช่วงมีการปลดปล่อยพลังงานมาก และบางช่วงมีการปลดปล่อยพลังงานที่น้อย เกิดเป็นวัฏจักรที่มีคาบประมาณ 11-12 ปี เรียกว่า "วัฏจักรสุริยะ (Solar Cycle)" กล่าวคือ เป็นวัฏจักรที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเปลี่ยนแปลงสนามแม่เหล็กของดวงอาทิตย์ ส่งผลให้แต่ละช่วงดวงอาทิตย์ปลดปล่อยพลังงานแตกต่างกัน

โดยช่วงที่ดวงอาทิตย์ปลดปล่อยพลังงานมากที่สุด เรียกว่า "Solar Maximum" จะเป็น ช่วงที่มี sunspot บนพื้นผิวมากที่สุด และในทางตรงกันข้ามช่วงที่ดวงอาทิตย์ปลดปล่อยพลังงานน้อย (เงียบสงบ) และแทบจะไม่มี sunspot บนพื้นผิวเลย เรียกว่า "Solar Minimum"

The sun releases different amounts of energy at different times. A cycle comes with a period of approximately 11-12 years, called the "Solar Cycle". It’s cycle related to changes in the sun's magnetic field. As a result, each period of the sun releases different energy.
When the sun releases the most energy, called "Solar Maximum", there will be the most sunspots on the photosher. And on the contrary, the period when the sun releases less energy (quiet) and there is almost no sunspot on the surface is called "Solar Minimum".
