The market is actually comprised of two separate markets, an indoor market known as the Mercato Centrale (Central Market),
a building designed by Giovanni Mengoni who is also architect of the well-known Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, with cast iron and glass all around, also glassed ceiling made the interior spacious and bright. It was built between 1870-1874 when Florence was a capital city of Italy.
