3 The Oak Trail through Epping Forest, UK. (25.11.24)
On the northeastern edge of Greater London, Epping Forest is located in the county of Essex on the border with Greater London.
It is London's largest green space, stretching from Manor Park in east London to Epping in Essex. The funny part of my journey is, I didn't realise that I walked from London and into the county of Essex. No idea where I was going!
Maybe I will call this my first Trail that I have planned on my own and I just constantly walked alone in the forest for 11.1 km or 6 miles in 4 hours, with no break for lunch.
It is very simple to visit Epping Forest. I have a map on hand and knew where the station should be at the beginning of the walk. It is only 20 mins from my home to the starting point at Theydon Bois station and also, the finish point is at the same spot.
The first part is very muddy and I was so proud that I could find the way in. It was a very tiny gate at the end of the road and it was not like a walkway at all. The mud made me almost decide to cancel the walk as my feet were sinking deep and I couldn't hold onto the trees as they were very spiky.
After only 15 minutes, I found 2 small hills and this was a very beautiful green space. November is cold at this time of the year but the sky it's just so nice blue and bright. I also saw wild rabbits near the end of the journey as well as huge cows. It was a long walk so I could see how different the weather was changing throughout the day. The first hour was so sunny then in the forest it was raining, dark then It was sunshine through the forest again.
I finished the walk about 16.00 hrs and it was the perfect sunset at the time that is kept in my memories.
Finally I found a bench and I sat down and tried to clean my boots from a litter of water on the grass. It was a super tiring day but worth going out.
