The Philippine Air Force (PAF) is set to procure an additional 12 FA-50 light attack fighter jets from South Korea, with a budget of approximately 22.96 billion baht ($683 million) or around 40 billion Philippine pesos.
The Philippine government has planned to acquire 12 more FA-50PH light attack fighter jets (the Philippine-specific variant) from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Republic of Korea, along with various other weapon systems to enhance its defense capabilities. According to the procurement report released by the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) in January 2025
, details have been disclosed regarding new procurement contracts, including the acquisition of new utility helicopters, close air support (CAS) aircraft for the Philippine Air Force, and communication system equipment for the Philippine Navy.
Additionally, reports indicate that the Philippine government has finalized the terms for acquiring a new batch of FA-50PH fighter jets through a government-to-government agreement with South Korea. The agreement has been approved with a budget allocation of 40 billion Philippine pesos (approximately $683 million),
as stated in the procurement monitoring report. The Philippine Department of National Defense previously outlined its requirement for acquiring at least 12 additional FA-50PH fighter jets.
Currently, the Philippine Air Force operates 12 FA-50PH fighter jets, which were procured in 2014 under a 19 billion peso contract.
