Last sunday (15 November 2020), the BBC news reported that Ray Clemence, the former England goalkeeper had died aged 72. He peacefully passed away after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2005. So, it is 15 years since he has suffered from the early detection of this chronic disease.
For the past 4 years ago, Arnold Palmer, the greatest and most charismatic golfer, had died at 84 year-old. Though the fatal causation was concerned to the heart failure, he was found to have prostatic enlargement by PSA protein elevation and undergo prostate cancer therapy since 1997. He was 68 years old at the beginning of that detection.
It seems that Prostate Cancer is not fatal harmful as the different types of cancer such as liver cancer, lung cancer, ovary cancer in women, and others. As we know these types of cancer quickly worsen exacerbation and some are hardly found leading to short lives.
Anyways, we are all afraid of its name “CANCER”. The prostate cancer is always on the first or second ranking of cancer in 50-up men. Also, it is the fifth or sixth fatal death of cancer among Thai men and the global population.
ตัวเลขที่ชัดเจนยิ่งกว่านั้น อยู่ในผลการวิจัย ที่ตั้งชื่อไว้น่าสนใจว่า “More men die with prostate cancer than because of it” - an old adage that still holds true in the 21st century.
There is the interesting reviewed research in the topic “More men die with prostate cancer than because of it” - an old adage that still holds true in the 21st century.” which is available online on October 16, 2020. These medical researchers have screened and analysed the data from 171 clinical and experimental studies into 63 passed pieces.
They recently concluded that the risk of prostate cancer is increasing gradually when the man is older every ten years.
Anyways, there are many fatal causations in male seniors. Not all of them will die because of prostate cancer. The chance of prostate cancer which is primitively detected by PSA amount in blood still affects his quality of life later in several ways.
The PSA or blood detective result of specific antigen produced by the prostate gland is usually higher in older men. Normally, this should be never found in blood. It may be secret together with the semen. For healthy men, the number of blood PSA should be nearly zero.
If the PSA number is in the range 4-10 nanogram per milliliter, it may infer the presence of prostate cancer or enlargement of prostate gland. If this number is much as 10 nanogram per milliliter, it is a high incidence of prostate cancer.
Additionally, when cancer is detected in the prostate gland, the physician will carefully choose the best procedure or steps of treatment for each man. If the cancer probably worsen quickly or invades nearby organs such as the rectum, it should be treated by surgery, radiation, or other effective remedies. However, there are many cases just on watchful waiting. About the expenditure, it depends on the health insurance and company welfare.
Moreover, prostate cancer patients should intake lycopene-enriched fruits such as tomatoes and pomegranates which has been helpfully confirmed by many clinical researches.
However, there are many reasons for PSA elevation such as the enlargement of the prostate gland, infections in male urinary tract, sexual intercourse, hormonal intaking which have to find out the further causation.
Even though the maturation is unavoidable, we can realize and take care of family members as best as we can. To check-up health conditions yearly is an excellent way. Absolutely, do not forget checking the blood PSA particularly in male seniors.
