Vitamin D

☀️ Forms of Vitamin D ☀️
- 2 major forms; vitamin D2 & vitamin D3.
- Active form is 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol (D3).
Our body can obtain vitamin D from;
- food intake (vitamin D availability in natural food is quite rare)
- synthesis at the skin due to sunlight exposure (main source 90%)
Vitamin D2 sources:
- Yeast, mushroom, seaweeds, phytoplankton, zooplankton.
- Our body obtains Vit.D2 from food intake only (unable to synthesize)
Vitamin D3 sources
- cod liver oil, egg yolk, milk, butter, animal livers, oily fishes
